Welcher war der denkwürdigste Band-Moment des Jahres?

Das war die Motörhead Show auf dem Wacken Open Air. Ich wusste ja bereits vorher, wie es um Lemmy`s Gesundheit steht. Ich konnte genau empfinden, wie er bei der Hitze gelitten haben muß. Ich war den Tränen nahe und ich erinnerte mich an meine erste Motörhead Show im Jahre 1979. Hoffe inständig, dass er wieder gesundet und aus eigenen freien Stücken die Bühne wieder rockt.

Welche war die Party des Jahres?

Das war auch das diesjährige Wacken. Ich selbst hatte keinen Gig, wurde aber vom Veranstalter als Gast eingeladen. Das hatte ich ja noch nie, dieses Festival mal aus der Fan-Perspektive zu erleben. Das war echt der Hammer. War mit ein paar guten Freunden da und wir hatten mal die Gelegenheit, uns in aller Ruhe die Sonne auf dem Pelz brennen zu lassen und das eine oder andere Bierchen zu zischen.

Was hat dich 2013 am meisten bewegt oder schockiert?

Die Hiobsbotschaften reißen ja nicht ab. So war es auch in 2013. Mich kann schon kaum noch etwas schockieren oder bewegen. Ich lasse es auch alles nicht mehr so nah an mich ran. Wahrscheinlich hilft mir diese Grundhaltung, in dieser Welt zu überleben.

When my guitarist Robin and I at our Summerhouse in Finland. Stayed there 3 days, no contact with civilization. Just writing music and drinking vodka. It was an incredibly productive, yet insane party that only the two of us attended.

The result of the court case against Lost Prophets singer Ian Watkins. I’ve grew up in Wales, they were a massive band of my youth, played festivals with them. I was expecting it all to end in just a big misunderstanding or conspiracy against him. But when I heard he admitted to the allegations I was like, holy shit! That is fucked up! Still can’t believe it.

Welche Erwartungen hast du von 2014?

We’ll be releasing our new album. So its going to be a very cool year for us. Looking forward to seeing all our friends again and getting back on this crazy roller coaster called Metal!

We had the splendid opportunity to support the legendary punk band X in front of a crowd of 7,500+ people this past Summer 2013 in Pershing Square, downtown Los Angeles.

Club Gromka – Ljubljana, SLOVENIA. That place rules. I kind of recall a jam we did after all the bands played…It was all quite fuzzy.

Was hat dich 2013 am meisten bewegt oder schockiert?

I think it’s the whole Mayor Rob Ford (Toronto, ON- CA) scandal. We recently performed at Lee’s Palace in Toronto when all of that went down, so we had a chance to speak with the residents there. Other than that, we had a near miss with a truck on that same tour. Luckily, James(our drummer) slammed on the brakes, which unfortunately sent equipment flying on top of our projectionist Molly Rogers.

Welche Erwartungen hast du von 2014?

Many expectations. I know that we will be touring EU and the UK in Spring, plus possibly even Australia. We will release our feature film Spindrift – Ghost of the West at some point. We will also be attending Slamdance and Sundance Film Festivals in Park City, UT in Jan. 2014.

Many this year actually, doing the first proper touring in 10 years with Spiritual Beggars sticks out.

Played great gigs with both Candlemass & Switchblade but also producing swedish band Kamchatka and then asked to join the band was very cool!

As far as all things metal go I’d say Hellfest is always a good party.

I doubled this year with Candlemass & Spiritual Beggars, which meant I got to hang out twice as much.

Lots of good friends and lots of good music, good times!

Shocked that so many swedes are supporting non democratic political parties.

Moved and humbled by all the non profit organizations/volunteers helping other people through difficult times.

Lots of live work, first and foremost with Kamchatka supporting the new album.

Tag 2 – ein kompletter Umbau in nur 15 Minuten aus dem zu spät kommenden Truck in Seebronn beim Rock Of Ages. Tag 3 – die (Schloss-)Kulisse des Jahres in Luxemburg. Gesamtstrecke – 3000 km! Der ganz normale Wahnsinn!

70.000 Tons Of Metal! Eine Woche Party non stop auf einem dicken Karibikkreuzfahrer mit 2500 Metalheads!

The most memorable moment was our bus crash back in September. We were out with Trivium/Devildriver touring the US and Canada and we were in a serious crash just outside Montreal. We went into the back of a big truck and it was pretty serious. The RV we were in was totally written off and just fell to pieces. We were all so lucky to come out with minor injuries all things considered.

The most fun was Soundwave Festival in Australia. It was our first time down under and the whole experience was awesome. Travelling with all the bands on charter flights etc and getting to see Metallica and Slayer play every day ruled. We had some great days off by the beach and nearly getting attacked by a shark.

The bus crash was the most shocking thing that happened to us but the amount of love we got from our fans and the metal community in general was really overwhelming.

Going to NYC for a Decibel cover shoot with Jeff Walker (Carcass) and Luc Lemay (Gorguts) it was a mindblowing experience to share a magazine cover with two of my heroes and is just a taste of what awesomeness is to come in 2014 when we hit the road together for Decibels 3rd annual tour.

I think the biggest party of the year for us was Halloween.  We played at Ritual in Ottawa Canada and dressed up like idiots.  I was a gay fireman. We had a mounty, a warrior, a wizard, and a SWAT team dude.  Pretty Motely crew we had that evening; much fun was had and many alcoholic beverages were consumed.

I’m drawing a blank here, so I’ll just tell you how unlucky I am! This summer we were on a North American tour with Chimaira, The Browning and Dark Sermon. It was about a week into the tour and we were playing in Lubbock, TX. We were on stage and everything was going fine. I had broken a couple sticks but that’s bound to happen. So we’re about halfway through the second last song of our set (Faceless) and all of a sudden I start to lose my balance. I mean, I wasn’t THAT drunk, Then I completely fall off my drum throne! It turns out that two of the three legs on my drum throne had snapped right off! I tried to finish the song standing up but it just wasn’t the same. Once we stopped the song, I threw the drum throne into the crowd and almost hit someone in the head. Oops! Thanks to Austin from Chimaira for letting me borrow his drum throne!

Threat Signal was lucky enough to play 2013’s 70000 Tons of Metal cruise. 2500 metalheads crammed on a cruise ship with 40 bands from around the world and more than enough booze to go around. I REALLY hope to go on the cruise again!

Midsummer at Kilkim Zaibu -festival in Lithuania. Had a great show after which we all got really drunk and partook fullheartedly in all the traditional festivities together with all the festival visitors. The night included naked sleepwalking, barely getting out of a knife fight, being guarded by the local face-tattooed MC-club, sleeping on the grass outside the accommodation and emptying piss-filled shoes (result of sleepwalking) when waking up in the morning. Actually it’s not very memorable at all, as memories are vague, but this is what we managed to puzzle together out of what people told us.

The above mentioned was the hardest party of the year, but the biggest must have been the 70.000  Tons of Metal -cruise.

A lot of touring starting out with our European headline tour in January-March 2014. I think the year will keep us busy on the road and it’s also the 10-year anniversary of our classic debut album Battle Metal, so we’ll need to try to come up with something special to celebrate.

Probably playing in Tel Aviv. We played a show with our good friends of Korpiklaani. It was a great stay in a beautiful city, and I’d love to go back there sometime.
